I got a call today from a blocked #. My first thoughts was “who is this”??? I knew it had to have been real estate related because it came through my business line. It was a neighbor of a house we recently bought. This particular house we bought subject to the existing mortgage. We were able to help the homeowner who wanted to buy a new home but couldn’t make two mortgage payments and had trouble selling the conventional way. It was a win/win for the seller and us.
The anonymous caller asked what were we doing with the house. Were we going to rent it out or resell it? I said, well we aren’t sure yet. We were thinking of doing a rent to own or we may just sell it once we’re done rehabbing it. The caller said “by the way what you’ve done with the house so far looks really good!” (Shout out to my business partner Gail!) The caller was concerned about who we were renting to. She would have rather it been sold to a homeowner. Well some might have taken her request the wrong way. I took it as a concerned neighbor not wanting to compromise the integrity of her street. ALOT of other landlords and property managers have made a bad name for themselves.
I rest assured her that we have a rigorous tenant tenant pre screening process. We would rather leave a house vacant for a longer period of time just to find the “right” tenant than to rent to a bad one. SNHB can brag till this day that we’ve NEVER had to evict a tenant. That is because we pre screen tenant applicants very thoroughly. After our conversation I can say that she sounded relieved.
